Question: Can anyone help me find my friend's birth mother?

I have a friend that is searching for her birth mother and possibly siblings. If anyone knows of ways to find out how to find her mother it would be great. HERE'S HER STORY.

*****Her story in her own words: I was told that my mother and grandparents lived in Ohio and my mother was sent to her aunts house in Garden City, MI to have me.The doctor's name was Dr. George D. Lawley. He was in Wayne County , Garden City MI.
I was told that my mother was 16 years old when she put me up for adoption. My adoptive parents pick me up at a drugstore when I was 3 days old. I do know my birth certificate is in Lansing , MI..My birth date is 9/19/64, and my last name was Lukerchine. (this could be my dad's or my mother's last name). I am tall and have blonde hair and green eyes. My adoptive parents were Estelle & Lyle K. Emerson both deceased.
I have found out that Lyle K. Emerson (her adopted father) has lived in Columbia , SC ; Fitzgerald , GA ; Ocilla , GA ; & Abbeville , Ga.

Answer: Hi Trisha, thanks so much for helping your friend. She's got a lot to go on, especially as she has the last name of either her mother or father. Here are some steps your friend can take.

First and foremost, she needs to register at Soundex if she hasn't done so already. She can download the forms to register from here:

Second, she should take a look over at the reunion registry at:

I don't believe there are any females from Michigan with her date of birth listed there now, but she can create a profile for herself in the event someone from her family is searching for her.

The physician who delivered her is still in practice (or so it appears... maybe it's his son?) Anyway she can contact him to try and see if he will help her in any way

If she searches public records sites, such as Zabbasearch or WhitePages, there is one Lukerchine in Ohio listed, who may or may not have a connection.

Unfortunately Michigan is a tiered access state, and being born in 1964 your friend falls outside of the access years. However she should definitely petition the court. There is information on how to do that at the page above.

Because Michigan is a difficult state, each county may function differently. That's why having a Michigan support group will help her too. There is a fantastic group here:
