Barbie And Ken Magazine

Did you know that Barbie had her own magazine with news about Barbie, her fashions and her friends? Below is a picture of a very old Barbie and Ken Magazine published by Mattel Inc Toymakers. It is called Barbie and Ken Teen-age Fashion Model Magazine. Ken is, of course, Barbie's boyfriend and he is a doll! It is a small, mini, tiny-sized magazine with 50 pages. The magazine measures 2.9 x 3.8 x 0.15 inches. Almost every page of this magazine has a costume for either Barbie, her friends or Ken. All costumes in this Barbie and Ken Magazine are original designs by Mattel. This tiny, blue covered Barbie and Ken Magazine was actually printed in Japan and was imported to the US. There is no date stamp on this book but it appears to be from the 1960s or 1970s time.
How to subscribe to Barbie's Magazines?
At the time of this magazine publication, all you had to do is fill out a tiny form at the back of this magazine and send to Mattel Barbie Magazine, PO Box 813-BN, Hawthorne, California. You cannot do that any more though. Just for your information, it cost only $1 for a one year subscription to the Barbie Magazine at the time. There were 6 issues of Barbie Magazine in a year.

Thank you so much for your post about Barbie and Ken’s little magazine. The article was most interesting. They thought of everything that up-to-date marketing companies think of, but do not always do. Great example of marketing to the user (children). Sort of reminds me of the TV Saturday cartoon commercials. (chuckle)
